Far Side of the World
03:57
|
|||
I leave home early and work until dark but
I'm never angry cause my life's in a rut
Because one day soon I'll be going away
Time moves so slowly and my mind goes astray
I've trouble sitting still day after day
But I know soon I'll be going away
I've got a girl who's as good as can be
She's working hard too for the upcoming spree
Because she knows that soon we'll be going away
We're gonna see the far side of the world
We're going to breathe some fresh air
Yes we're gonna see the far side of the world
And we'll take our time when we're there
And we'll be basking in a sun that's shining bright
Relaxing every day and dancing every night
While we are young we need to see what there is to see
Travel the world -- yes on that we're agreed
And it won't be too long till we're flying away
I hope the travelling spirit will bring
A place that is far from where money is king
And if it does that's where we'll stay

Would I Still Be Me?
02:39
|
|||
Would I be the same if my parents had slept the day after they did?
If they'd tossed their dice in some different way would I be the same kid?
Given the change would I see through these eyes?
If all was the same, then how would things lie
If fate had tried X instead of a Y
And I was a girl instead of a guy
Then what would it mean?
Would she be me?
Would I be the same if I'd chosen other paths to the ones that I did?
Have the choices I've made changed the way that I feel and the way that I think?
If I'd used all my days to push my career far
Or been less ambitious and worked in a bar
Or found true love with some girl from afar
And now viewed the world with eyes full of stars
Then how would it be?
Would I still be me?
Would the world be the same if I never was born and I never was seen?
Would those that remain be the same as they are if I never had been?
If I'd been bad or if I'd been good
If I'd been famous or just misunderstood
If I had fathered the whole neighbourhood
Or lived as a monk just as a monk should
Would the world be the same?
A world without me?

The Party Princess
03:47
|
|||
Paid to party and to play all day
The party princess arrives today
She's been flown in fresh from the US of A
There's a crowd around - she's the girl in white
With cameras flashing she's quite the sight
And excitement's thick in the flickering light
She'll be rushing off to make the opening of a club that bears her name
There'll be interviews about perfume use
Her current plans
For her clothing brand,
Her recent look
And her dog's new book
The party princess arrives today
And they come from all around to see the princess showing off her crown wo-oh-ow
Stand in line - she's sure to pass by
Carpet's out, limos are nearby
A buzz breaks out and the crowd surges
Here she comes!
Here she comes!

Loneliness, researchers say
Is ending some time soon now - it could be gone today
The major things that have put it in its place
Are social web sites like Facebook and MySpace
Try as you might to look lonely and let down
It's hard to have no friends when there's so many around
Everything has changed , now it's easy to find some friends today
Give me lots of friends so I can joke, poke, and otherwise provoke
Give me lots of friends so I can bite, fight, and stay up every night
Give me friends who play really silly games
Give me friends with stupid made up names
Oh add me as your friend, add me as your friend today
Give me friends who are innocent and new
Give me friends I can send a present to
Give me friends with interests just like me
And give me friends with lots of photos I can see
Give me friends with a claim to fame
And more friends than Leyne Davydson (not her real name)
Oh add me as your friend, add me as your friend today
And if I'm feeling low
I can pull some profiles up
And see everyone I know
And it makes me proud
That my group of friends
Form such a crowd
And they're all there for me
Give me your tired, give me your bored,
Give me huddled yearning masses who were hitherto ignored .
Your wretched refuse of the modern social scene -
Your ugly, lazy, sweaty, stupid, smelly and unclean.
All these teeming masses yearning to be free -
Send these teeming masses tempest-tost to me
Oh, add me as your friend,
Add me as your friend today ...
Add me as your friend and you'll be cool

One day I'm out looking for a pair of BBQ tongs
Wondering which brand to buy, thinking
Well, who mades the best stuff - the Germans?...
The Japanese maybe. But then I think...
Who could put a bridge across the harbour,
Or, you know, make clothes tough enough for jackaroos
Answer: Aussie battlers
Like you and me - that's who!
It's Aussie and it's great
You can give it to your mates
It's bonza beaut
You know that it's true blue
It ain't some foreign crap
That's hardly worth a scrap
No it's Aussie mate
Like no one else can do
Made with the skill of Bradman
Done tough like Mum and Dad can
Our fighting spirit keeps on shining through
To make an Aussie thing
With all the joy that it brings
Oh it makes you proud to call yourself true blue
It's Aussie and it's great
You can give it to your mates
Oh it's bonza beaut
You know that it's true blue
In was made in this great land
By the sweat of Aussie hands
So it's bastard tough -
Fair dinkum through and through
Bought these boots
Twenty years back
Walked through a bushfire
On an emergency track
And they saw the wet season
In the marshes
Way up at Kakadu
Yeah I've had this hat
For just as long
It's seen desert sun and tropical storms and
If you real close
Well it looks like it's
Never been worn
Cause the stuff you find in Aussie
From Lake Eyre to the top to Koszie
From Bondi Beach
To the reef at Ningaloo
Oh it's made within the digger
Our Aussie hearts as big as
Phar Lap's or the boxing kangaroo
It's Aussie and it's great
...
Buy Aussie if you call yourself true blue

Flirting with Men
04:13
|
|||
Oh I realise
That the stars in my eyes
Can look beautiful to some
But when he tries to take my hand
Then I know I've gone too far
And I wish that I had spent the night at home
Now I wonder how he'll feel
I wonder how he'll feel
If I disappear from view
Long looks and lusting eyes
Rising interest and no disguise
If he moves in too close to you
What will you do?
The dangers of flirting with men.
Oh I realise
That it's bad to flirt with guys
When you know that you don't intend to see it through
But when a lager starts kicking in,
The defences - they get thin
And it's so easy to forget how might see you
And before you know what's going on
His hopes are up, things are going wrong
And it's gotten out of hand
So if you find yourself in a bar
Careful what you say and do
Ask yourself do really want to know about
Russian cigars or how to use samovars
And if you do then ask yourself again
If you really want to play with the hearts of men
Is it worth causing trouble and woe
Raising up their hopes just to say "no"
Cause you'll find the time arrives
That you'll see you've been unwise
And have to run off once again

Signwriter
02:44
|
|||
The faceless men of a silent world
Have lost their will to speak
Their ears closed over years ago
And their mouths are looking weak.
There's a man there who sees things for what they are
And he knows unspoken truths
But he has a skill and he uses it to
Advertise his views
Signwriter's
Running around at night
Forced to duck and hide
Has to keep out of sight
Signwriter's
Taking a giant risk
Telling it like it is
Getting his message to the world
His fellow man doesn't sympathesize
He frowns and thinks him rude
He turns away or shuts his eyes
And pretends it isn't true
But when the sun comes up
There's a brand new sign
With big bold lettering
Cause if he seeds some thoughts in a passer by
Then all the work of his is worth something
...
Word has got back about a dangerous man who seeks to write about state affairs
Those in control are troubled by his voice and by the threat he bears .

Playing in the Poppies
03:40
|
|||
Playing in the poppies
Pink poppies in flower everywhere
Skip and hop in your flower shop
You're too young to worry much or care
Bees are busy making sunshine pay
Pollen's out - work is under way
It's a frantic scene
But they were there yesterday
It's a sol - dier in green
That's sur-prise of the day
Playing in the poppies
Pink poppies that waver in the air
Jump and run, have some childish fun
It's harmless and it's good you're unaware
Enjoy the petals while the season lasts
When the fruits form the flowers pass
And the harvest comes
And the time's nearing fast
When the pretty plants succumb
To a field of grass

Terrorists
02:37
|
|||
Terrorists will get you
Kill all your family too
Save us from the men
Who'll attack us once again
Do all you have to
Do all you have to
Terrorists will get you
Kill all your family too
There's so many unknowns
So watch next door and tap their phones
Evil's all around you
Evil's all around you
In a war new laws are required
Exigencies demand new powers be acquired
By the leaders of the lands of the free
And we'll need to place restrictions on civil liberties
Terrorists will get you
Kill all your family too
They have friends everywhere
Invade their countries, we don't care
Kill them if you have to

Heartaches and loneliness
Never seemed so hard in the days before I met you
Now peace is so hard to find
Some day soon I'll lose my mind over you.
Now all that's left of you
Is an image in my head
And I'd feel better if I just never thought of you again
I'll never think of you again.
Still I've heartaches and loneliness
Screwing up my mind and making my life a mess
Where there's life there's hope I know
But it's so far away I just cannot see its glow
And living by myself
In the memory of our past
There's little joy to lighten up the dark
And it never seems to last...
Now reason says to me
That night cannot last forever
That in the end it dies
And that the sun will shine again
And a new man will arise

My Lady
03:12
|
|||
When my lady smiles, she smiles at me
She smiles at me, she smiles at me.
And when my lady cries, she cries with me
She cries with me, she cries with me.
And when my lady sees I'm glad her heart is free
And when my lady thinks of love she thinks of me
She thinks of me,
She thinks of me.
And when my lady plans
Of her perfect land
She's with her perfect man
She's there with me ...

Thursday night's a magic night - it's the night they hold YourSpace
So see the show, come down Enmore Rd, you're sure to find the place
Grant and Dave are sure to be coming
And you can bet that Elias will play us a song
Flaming Galahs are sure to be strummin'
And you know that TRIP will always be strong
So bring your girl and
Bring your friends
Turn off the computer and put away your pens
The music never stops and the fun will never end
Cause the Sly Fox rocks tonight
The Fox rocks tonight
So look around and you'll see the place is hummin'
To the booming of the bass and the beat of Leynie's drummin'
Genie screams and shouts
And Daxton keeps the rhythm moving on
The Falling Rocks will keep on a'rolling
And when MJ gets up be sure to sing along
You know that Noel will have his fun cajoling
And that Max will reck his havoc all night long ...
So look around and you'll see the place is hummin'
To the booming of the bass and the beat of Pippy's drummin'
Mattie screams and shouts
And David keeps the rhythm moving on
There's spoons and bones and sometimes there's poems
There's African drums and flamenco guitars
There's tamborines and even sometimes theremins
There's soloists and bands and would-be superstars ...
